The Chinese-language HUG magazine

2017.12.10. 22:57

Launched in March 2016, the HUG (Hungarian Geopolitics) Magazine is Hungary’s leading journal discussing geopolitical and geostrategic topics. Our authors are international experts, recognised professors, leading geostrategic thinkers and representatives of the new generation of researchers. The HUG is building upon value-based thoughts and mindsets with an innovative approach and interesting specialised articles that are both academic and popular. The HUG Magazine places great emphasis both on content and form (design). After my presentation held at the national University of Singapore, I showed the HUG Magazine to a tutor, who said that we could put a letter E at the end of the title (HUGE). Up to present, seven issues of the HUG magazine have been published in the Hungarian and English languages, and one in Chinese. Issue 1 investigates the relations between the New World Order and Geostrategy, Issue 2 is on knowledge and creativity, and Issue 3 discusses the developments of the Old and the New Silk Roads. The topic of Issue 4 is Cities in the Global Space. Issue 1 in 2017, which is Issue 5 of the HUG Magazine, discusses the visions for 2050, Issue 6 studies the great paradigm shift and the connection between technology and innovation, while Issue 7 focuses on the topic of the One Belt One Road initiative.

PAGEO (Pallas Athene Geopolitical Foundation) joined the 16+1 Think-Tank network of Central and Eastern European research institutes pooled together by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences as its 64th member. For its professional efforts, the foundation received the Euro-Sino Economic Research Award in May 2017. In 2017 we organised the EUOBOR Conference and will hold the New World Order Conference on 29 November.

On 10 November 2017 we set up the Belt-Road Centre, which is a scientific think-tank network of knowledge and studies.  Our researchers hold presentations at numerous significant international conferences  from Duisburg to Shang, from Skopje to Beijing, and we were the co-organiser of the EU-Chinese – Young Global Thinkers Forum in Shanghai. We are building close relationship with FUDAN University and Fudan Development Institute. PAGEO is indicated on the list and map of the Think Tank of the Silk Road countries.

As the most significant geopolitical and infrastructure investment of the 21st century, the OBOR builds upon peaceful cooperation and partnership. Thus, the role of Central and Eastern Europe is becoming more and more important from the side of the One Belt One Road initiative, too. The Central and Eastern European region is the key point of the New Silk Road because the networks starting from China reach Europe here, so the significance of the region requires the coordination of scientific cooperation related to the initiative, too. Hungary might become the scientific and knowledge centre, the intellectual and cultural centre of the New Silk Road, and the main city of P2P connections between the EU and China. Budapest will organise the 16+1 China – Central and Eastern Europe Summit on 27 November. The international role of the 16+1 is definitely China’s most significant success in this region and Europe.

The Chinese-language HUG magazine is the first Chinese-language geopolitical magazine published in Hungary and discusses the past, present and future of the Silk Road in 21 exciting articles and studies on 200 pages. We can read articles about the history of the Silk Road, the Hungarian explorers of the Silk Road, the music and cultural connection points or the significance of the One Belt One Road, which is China’s largest geostrategic plan in the 21st century. We also consider why Hungary is a key region for the OBOR.
